"[...] Definition. When any given bodies of the same or different magnitude are compelled by other bodies to remain in contact, or if they be moved at the same or different rates of speed, so that their mutual movements should preserve among themselves a certain fixed relation, we say that such bodies are in union, and that together they compose one body or individual, which is distinguished from other bodies by this fact of union [...]

POST, project Babilonia, 2010

PROJECT: project Babilonia POST, 2010
DESIGNER: Sophie Usunier and Antonio Cos
MATERIALS: silicone
DIMENSIONS: 15x15x120cm, scale 1/300

At the occasion of the third interpretation of the Triennale Design Museum Quali cose siamo, Silvana Annicchiarico and Alessandro Mendini asked several designers and architects to think about the concept of the Babel tower. The project was called Babilonia. According to us, it’s impossible to find a better world, which would link all the differences, as long as we go on trying to win over the sky, we prefer to think of a better cohabitation on Earth.
We made a deconstruction of the archetypal plane-parallel contemporary tower.
It is in the failure of the vertical height that we’ve found an interesting hypothesis of cultural exchanges and union of diversity, in which there wouldn’t be any more hierarchy motivated by the different floors on top of each other.
We drew up this hypothesis creating a white, immaculate, flabby tower fluid as a river.
It is not anymore an erected building but a flabby architecture that adapts itself to the territory where the areas are easily accessible in the surrounding situation. It looks like a defenceless tower.

CD graphic cover, Palmeri, 2009

PROJECT: cd graphic cover
DESIGNER: Sophie Usunier and Antonio Cos
PRODUCTION: Album Preparativi per la pioggia, Lorenzo Palmeri, 2009
MATERIALS: four-colour process print
DIMENSIONS: 12x12cm

The graphic project of Lorenzo Palmieri’s cd booklet provides for an interaction between the different covers designed by several designers, through a horizontal cut.
« (…) Precarious is a balance of anything but balanced (…) »
The cover we proposed refers to the words of one of the song included in the cd «Precario ».
Using the mikado game, we recreated a construction with an unlikely balance.

PRE-GIUDIZIO, chocolate, 2004

PROJECT: chocolate PRE-GIUDIZIO
DESIGNER: Sophie Usunier and Antonio Cos
PRODUCTION: prototype, 2004
MATERIALS: white and black chocolate
DIMENSIONS: 1,5x1,5x1,5cm

A chocolate, a little sin of greediness to taste on your own or with some friends. But what should we think when the shape of the vice looks like a molar tooth? Or when the outer white, the immaculate and pure color unveils the black chocolate after the first bite? The pleasure of the senses dies away and remains the bitter taste of guilt. A premature caries made of chocolate warns us to stop eating it. Tomorrow, I swear!
